As a young adult, Kelley learned first hand how the foods we eat have the power to harm… and heal. For nearly two years, she battled a debilitating health condition that went misdiagnosed by multiple doctors. Finding no relief in the hands of “modern medicine”, she turned to her own passion for research and finally learned that her symptoms were related to nutrition – particularly, the sugar, yeast and chemical preservatives in her diet.
Within weeks, she charted a course back to health, with nothing more than simple lifestyle changes and the power of the plate. Already on the educational path to becoming a doctor, this experience led her to re-focus her efforts on nutritional biochemistry and the study of how compounds in food can promote health and protect against disease.
In addition to her background in research and laboratory bio/chemistry, Kelley has always loved cooking and baking and creating recipes. These two passions led her to serve as Editor in Chief of the Healing Gourmet four-book series published by McGraw Hill. In this capacity, she led a team of 12 doctors, dieticians and chefs from world renowned institutions to create educational tools, cutting-edge meal plans and recipes designed to prevent and treat the most pressing health concerns of our day.
